When we think of the world “health” our physical health comes to mind immediately. Health is always associated with exercise and good eating habits but we rarely stop to think about health means beyond that. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Being a healthy person doesn’t just mean being in great shape, it’s also about being satisfied and content with your lives overall. There’s far more to this than meets the eye. In order to spread awareness about the importance of taking care of one’s mental health we thought we’d share some of our favorite ways to make sure that you’re satisfying the needs of your mind, body and soul.
1. Physical Health
Physical and mental health are strongly connected to one another. The next time you’re working out, don’t just do it because you want to get in shape or lose some excess pounds. Be motivated by the fact that you’re doing something good for your body. Not only does exercise benefit your physical health, it also improves your mental health by releasing endorphins, a hormone that makes you happy.
2. Sharing your thoughts
One of the most harmful things we can do for our mental health is keeping our thoughts, fears, and worries bottled up inside us. Whether you write them down in a private journal or discuss them with a trusted friend or family member, be sure to talk about what’s on your mind. You’ll automatically feel better inside. Just like we wouldn’t want to keep harmful toxins in our bodies, we also don’t want to keep negative thoughts inside us. Both have harmful effects that are difficult to reverse.
3. Take time out for yourself
Taking time out for your self in this busy society has become something of a commodity. However, don’t let that stop you. No matter how much work you have you should never feel guilty for taking the time out to do something nice for yourself. Whether you’re reading a book for fun, taking a nap or going on a walk make sure to take some time out everyday and do one thing that you genuinely enjoy.
