Mouthwatering Hummus You can Make at Home in Minutes


Lately for the past few years hummus has been the “it” food on the food scene. Everyone has been bragging about it’s endless health benefits and it’s delicious taste and we can’t blame them. Unlike other food trends where the food item is unhealthy or not tasty, hummus is actually one of those foods that is worth every bit of the hype. After a recent news story broke out about Sabra Hummus being infected with listeria we thought it would be great to share how to make homemade hummus with you girls. Homemade is always the healthiest and tastiest option so why not give this recipe a go next time you’re having a craving for something savory? Not only is hummus healthy and delicious, it goes amazingly well with almost anything. From a dip for veggies, to spread on bread or eaten with pretzels, you won’t regret having hummus ready to eat in your fridge. Here’s a recipe for avocado hummus, but if you like you can leave out the avocado and keep this hummus authentic to its chickpea base.


1 15 ounce can of chickpeas

2 medium sized ripe avocados

3 tablespoons of olive oil plus more for drizzling on top

1 1/2 tablespoons of tahini (tahini can be found at almost any grocery store in the Middle Eastern section)

3 tablespoons of fresh lemon or lime juice (go with your personal preference)

1 clove of peeled garlic

salt and pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

Red chili flakes for seasoning


You’ll be blown away when you realize how simple it is to actually make this dish. Drain your chickpeas and add them to your food processor. Cut up your avocados and add them as well along with the olive oil, tahini, lime juice, and garlic. Blend until the mixture is smooth. You can check the consistency until it suits your personal preference (yet another benefit of making hummus at home). After it’s been blended add in your salt, pepper and cumin powder and give it one last quick run in the food processor to make sure the seasoning gets mixed in. Dish out your humus into a bowl or platter and tip with cilantro, chili flakes and additional olive oil if you wish!
