Dessert tables are all the rage today. It’s no longer acceptable to only serve one dessert at a gathering or party! Setting up an elaborate looking table with loads of different desserts is the norm d’jour. While these tables seem entirely too intricate and complicated to recreate at home they’re actually incredibly easy to create at home. You’ll be surprised by how few supplies you need and most of the items you’ll need for decoration are things you probably have lying around already. Here’s our easy and simple guide of how to create a dessert table at home!
1) Pick the colors
The most important thing that ties a dessert table together is the colors. Pick a color theme with no more than two colors. Make sure they complement each other well. Also keep in mind whether or not you will be able to find candies and desserts in those particular colors. For example, while pink is a great color to choose because of the number of decorations and desserts available in shades of pink, dark green will be a difficult color to work with because there are relatively few dark green candies on the market. Once you’ve chosen your colors it’s time to move on to the next step!
2) Plan your desserts
Now that you know your colors it’s time to decide which candies/desserts you want to have on your table. Most people are intimidated by dessert tables because they conjure up images of intricate desserts that the even most professionally trained chefs would be scared of attempting! However, this is not the case at all! If you want, there doesn’t even have to be much baking in the entire process. A large chuck of your table will consist of candy. There’s no preparation when it comes to candy other than buying it! You can make desserts that can be baked easily like cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies. And don’t be afraid to use a box mix if you have too, most people will be too distracted by the pretty table to tell the difference! Make sure to have at least 5 – 7 different varieties of dessert on your table including the candy.
3) Setting up the table
Once you have your table, place a tablecloth over it in the color of your theme. You can make the dessert table the center of your party by placing it in the main area of your venue. Place a colored banner or streamers behind the table to make sure that everyone’s attention is drawn to it. Place all of your candies and desserts in clear glass jars so that their colors add to the presentation of the table. Use containers that are all different lengths and widths to add visual interest. Set them up in a way that is pleasing to the eye and you’re good to go!
These simple tips will help you create a dessert table that will impress everyone at any party or event no matter how big or small!
