Homemade Rose-Mint Lemonade

Lemonade is one of those delicious and refreshing beverages that are synonymous with the spring and summer months. No other drink is more perfect for lounging by the pool and spending hot days at the beach. While lemonade is delicious, the variety sold in stores tends to be filled with artificial flavoring and entirely too much sugar. Lemonade is something that can be easily created at home in a matter of minutes. Not only will it taste fresher when made by hand, it will be enormously healthier as well.

For this particular Rose-Mint Variety you will need:

6 large ripe lemons
1 cup of water
¼ cup of sugar
A handful of mint leaves
1 tablespoon of rose water
1 small drop of red food coloring

Process
Heat a small pan on the stove and add your water. Once the water begins to boil add your sugar and mix quickly. Make sure the sugar incorporates completely into the water but do not cook the mixture for too long because it will become syrupy.

You can taste the sugar water mixture to ensure that it is sweet. If you find it to be un-sweet you can always add more sugar in.

Now comes the tough part, squeezing all those lemons! While this can take a bit of time, the smell of the fresh lemon juice will be sure to distract you from the amount of work you are doing to squeeze it. A great trick to get as much juice out the lemons as possible is to heat them in the microwave oven for about 15 seconds before you cut them up. The heat will get the juice flowing inside and soften up the lemons, making them easier to squeeze. Try squeezing the lemons upwards above your bowl so that the seeds do not fall in. Even if they do, you can always strain them out later.

Once the lemon juice has been squeezed incorporate it with the sugar water. After this has been done, add in the tablespoon of rose water and red food coloring. Stir vigorously until everything has been mixed well. This is the base of your lemonade. By this point it should be the perfect shade of light pink. This is the base for your lemonade. Now it’s time to add cold water to dilute the mixture. Add as much cold water as you like but be careful not to add so much that the flavor of the lemon and rose becomes muted.

Wash up those sprigs of mint and throw them into the pitcher. Let the lemonade sit for about 10 minutes in the fridge so that the flavor of the mint diffuses throughout. After 10 minutes your lemonade is good to go!

  3. If you really want to make this taste really good, i highly suggest adding more suger to the recipe…it will give your lemonade an extra kick it needs to make it outstanding 🙂
