Smoothies have become a staple in almost everyone’s diet at this point. With the numerous health benefits and delicious taste who doesn’t want to start off every morning with a fruity smoothie. The best part is that you can customize them to get exactly what you’re craving. If you want something that’s going to help you get through your workout there’s the protein heavy variety, if you want something sweet and cool you can always some sugar or a scoop of ice cream to make it extra indulgent. Because the combinations are endless, we’ve broken down smoothies into five different varieties to make it easier for you decide which one to make based on the occasion.
1) The Power Smoothie
It’s a common misconception that smoothies are a light drink to cool you down on a hot summer day or stave over a fruit craving. By adding the right ingredients you can transform your smoothie into a powerhouse of nutrients and energy that’s fit to get you through the hardest workout or the longest day. Add in 1 or 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to your smoothie to get a boost of protein. A peanut butter and banana smoothie is an especially great combination to have if you’re going to be exercising. You can also add a tablespoon of whey protein to get a boost of energy.
2) The Detox Smoothie
Smoothies have a bad reputation as being high in sugar contents and fat but this doesn’t have to be the case at all! If you make your smoothie at home you can control exactly what’s going in to it and ensure that you’re adding the ingredients your body wants and needs. You can actually get a great detox by drinking smoothies. If you’re looking to rid your body of toxins mix together a few handfuls of berries (any kind will do), add a tablespoon of raw honey, a few pieces of ginger and a handful of kale and you’re good to go!
3) The Indulgent Smoothie
It’s no secret that most of the smoothies we get at the mall contain a high amount of sugar. There’s no harm in indulging every now and then and a sweet smoothie is a great way to do it! If you’re looking to make one at home try blending up a mango, pineapple, bananas, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious, decadent, and easy to make treat!
4) The Green Smoothie
We all have that one friend who’s a fitness freak and only drinks green smoothies. They may have a bad rep when it comes to taste but don’t be fooled, green smoothies can be delicious and incredibly healthy. If you’re looking to whip one cup combine some kale, spinach, cucumber, ginger, and a handful of your favorite berries.
5) The Summer Smoothie
Nothing comes close to drinking an ice cold smoothie on a hot day. For the perfect summer smoothie use water based ingredients. We love the idea of throwing together some watermelon, cucumber, and some cantaloupe for a cool and refreshing treat you won’t feel guilty about!
